Sri Lanka entdecken

South-east of India lies the island of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka looks back on a 12,000-year-old history and offers a huge range of culture. Impressive temple complexes, the Sigiriya rock or the ancient city of Polonnaruwa await you. The seemingly endless tea plantations, national parks with plenty of wildlife and palm-fringed beaches round off the dream trip.

  • Travel season varies by region: the coastal southwest and west are best from December to March, the northeast and east from May to September – both with temperatures around 27–32°C. The hill country around Nuwara Eliya is noticeably cooler, at 15–20°C.
  • Nonstop connections from Frankfurt to Colombo bring the flight time to around 10 hours; connections via the Gulf region are also available.
  • Sri Lanka is best experienced as a private round trip with a personal driver, or as an exclusive small-group journey.
  • Thanks to excellent flight connections to Malé, Sri Lanka combines beautifully with the Maldives, as well as with a stay in the Emirates or southern India.
  • Over comparatively short distances, tea plantations, cultural sites, national parks, and palm-fringed beaches alternate – a diversity that makes touring the island especially rewarding.

Frequently asked questions

The best time to visit Sri Lanka varies by region: Southwest coast and west (e.g. Colombo, Galle): December to March. Northeast and east (e.g. Trincomalee, Batticaloa): May to September. Sri Lanka can essentially be visited year-round, as the monsoon seasons alternate between the east and west coasts.

A round trip through Sri Lanka ideally lasts between 10 and 14 days, allowing time to explore the country's most important highlights. For the adventurous, we always recommend travelling the route between Kandy and Nuwara Eliya or Ella by train.

Thanks to excellent flight connections to Malé, Sri Lanka and the Maldives combine beautifully. Beyond that, a stay in the Emirates or southern India also makes for a wonderful addition to your journey.

These include the ancient temples and ruins of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, a hike up the rock fortress of Sigiriya, and the tea fields of Nuwara Eliya. Equally rewarding are the chance to spot elephants and leopards in Yala National Park and the stunning beaches of the south coast, such as Mirissa or Unawatuna.
