Orient Saudi Arabia
Where the Orient begins anew
Saudi Arabia stretches from the Red Sea coast to the vast dunes of the Rub al-Khali, bringing together rock landscapes, oases and coral reefs with one of the region’s oldest cultural histories. In AlUla, Nabataean tomb facades rise from the sandstone; in Riyadh, traditional mud-brick architecture meets contemporary design; and offshore lie largely untouched islands. Since 2019, the country has been opening to travellers from around the world, so you can still experience many places away from mass tourism. On a tailor-made journey, you discover Saudi Arabia privately, with your own guide and carefully chosen hotels, from desert camps to resorts on the Red Sea.
- The ideal time to visit Riyadh and AlUla is between October and April, with pleasant temperatures of 20-30 °C, while summer inland becomes very hot; the Red Sea coast, with its milder climate, is enjoyable year-round.
- Lufthansa operates nonstop flights from Frankfurt to Riyadh in around 5 hours 45 minutes; most nationalities can apply for the e-visa easily online.
- As Saudi Arabia has only welcomed international travellers since 2019, you can still experience iconic sites such as AlUla and the Red Sea coast almost free of mass tourism, whether on a private tour or an exclusive island stay reachable only by water or air.
- Saudi Arabia combines beautifully with a stopover in Dubai or Abu Dhabi; those with a taste for history often pair the journey with Jordan and Hegra's sister site, Petra.
- With Hegra, the country's first UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the historic At-Turaif district in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia counts several World Heritage Sites of global significance.

In AlUla, Nabataean tomb facades rise from the sandstone, including the rock tombs of Hegra, the country’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. Riyadh combines traditional mud-brick architecture with contemporary design and the historic Diriyah district of At-Turaif. Add to this desert camps beneath a starry sky, a concert inside the mirrored cube “Maraya” and the untouched reefs and islands of the Red Sea. On private tours, you experience these places away from large groups.
Saudi Arabia has only been opening to international travellers since 2019, and some customs differ noticeably from Europe or other destinations. Alcohol is prohibited throughout the country. As for clothing, we recommend comfortable, loose-fitting pieces that cover the shoulders and knees, which is pleasant in the heat in any case. In public, displays of affection are uncommon, and anyone wishing to photograph people should ask for permission first. Daily life also follows its own rhythm: during prayer times and the holy month of Ramadan, opening hours of shops and restaurants may shift. Mecca is reserved exclusively for Muslims and cannot be visited by non-Muslims. A journey to Saudi Arabia requires more preparation and planning than other destinations. We prepare you for these particularities and plan your journey so that you feel safe and welcome.
