Vietnam stretches over more than 1,600 kilometres, so the best time to travel varies by region. In the north, with Hanoi, Halong Bay and Sapa, October to April is the most pleasant period, although winters can be cooler and Halong Bay is more often hazy. In the centre, with Hue, Da Nang and Hoi An, the weather is most settled from February to August, while rain and storms are possible in autumn. The south, with Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong Delta and Phu Quoc, is driest from November to April. We match route and hotels to your travel dates, so you find the best conditions in every region.
For a tour from north to south, we recommend 12 to 14 days, so you can experience Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hue, Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City at a relaxed pace without rushing from place to place. With one week, a single region such as the north or the centre can be explored at an easy rhythm. If you would also like to include the Mekong Delta or a few days on the beach in Phu Quoc, we suggest allowing at least two weeks. We shape the journey around your wishes and adjust the duration accordingly.
For longer distances, for example between Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, domestic flights are the most comfortable option. On the ground, a private driver and a German- or English-speaking guide give you flexibility and access to places away from large groups, whether on the coastal road between Hue and Hoi An or along the paths through the rice terraces. In Halong Bay and the Mekong Delta, boat trips are a natural choice.
