Highlights at Bawah Reserve.
Anambas Archipelago, Indonesien Bawah Reserve
Inspired by nature, driven to protect it
In Indonesia's remote Anambas Archipelago, northeast of Singapore, Bawah Reserve spreads across six private islands. The sustainable luxury resort follows an "Earth-First" philosophy that shapes every detail, from its closeness to nature to its attentive service and respectful approach to the surroundings. Three lagoons within a marine conservation area, thirteen beaches and more than 100 hectares of untouched rainforest form the setting. Tented suites, overwater bungalows and pool villas sit within forest, beach and lagoon. All meals, a daily spa treatment and a wide programme of activities are included in the room rate.
Location
The journey begins in Singapore or Batam. From Singapore, a private car takes you to the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, followed by a ferry crossing of about 30 minutes to Batam. After a transfer to the airport, an 80-minute flight in an amphibious seaplane ends with a landing on the water in the main lagoon. The journey takes around four hours from Singapore and about three hours from Batam.

Cuisine
Two restaurants and two bars shape the culinary offering, complemented by private dinners at selected spots across the islands. Many ingredients come from Bawah's own gardens. At Tree Tops, the kitchen serves refined continental and Indonesian dishes beneath the forest canopy. The Boat House focuses on local seafood, enjoyed with sand between your toes and a sea view from every table.
The Grouper is the island's all-day gathering place for coffee, light bites and cocktails, overlooking the sea and the infinity pool. Jules Verne Bar sits at the resort's highest point and pours cocktails made with fresh ingredients from the garden, especially in the hours after dinner. Non-alcoholic drinks are included in the rate, while alcoholic drinks are charged separately.
Wellness
Aura Spa works with traditional treatments, natural ingredients and handmade scrubs to relax, revive and rejuvenate. One treatment per person per night is included in your stay. Aura Sanctuary adds contrast therapy with a sauna, steam bath, cold bath and ice plunge pool, with access included at set times.
Aura Wellbeing offers movement classes twice daily, including yoga, Pilates and meditation. For those who prefer to train on their own, there is an air-conditioned gym, and the tennis court is there to round off the day.
Experiences
On the water, the lagoon is yours to explore: Guided and independent snorkelling, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and catamaran sailing are part of your stay. Diving and PADI courses are available and are not included in the rate. Robinson Crusoe picnics on secluded islands, breakfast on a paddleboard and Aura Spa Explorer excursions to private islands lead to places usually reserved for just a few guests.
On land, guided and independent hikes lead through the rainforest, followed in the evening by stargazing free of light pollution, film nights on the beach and weekly beach barbecues. Classes in Indonesian cooking, art and batik, workshops at the scent bar, tours of the permaculture gardens and architectural walks deepen the connection to the region. Programmes within the marine conservation area show how Bawah protects and restores coral reefs.
Room categories
Bawah Reserve offers ten categories, from tented suites and overwater bungalows to pool villas with up to four bedrooms, all freestanding and set within nature. For exclusive stays, the private island of Elang is also available for ten or fourteen guests. Children aged five and over are welcome.
