Negombo, Sri Lanka Uga Riva
Arriving beneath coconut palms
Thirty minutes from Bandaranaike International Airport, hidden in the leafy suburbs of Negombo, stands a manor that has witnessed 180 years of Sri Lankan history and remains a home to this day. Uga Riva belonged to six generations of a prominent Colombo Chetty family, and Mahatma Gandhi was among its guests. Today, seven rooms and suites welcome travellers seeking a quiet place away from the pace of the coast. The rooms are arranged around a serene courtyard or face the gardens, and broad verandas catch the breeze drifting through five acres of coconut palms. Antique furniture, Sri Lankan art and a garden pool define the house, which suits a first or last stop on a Sri Lanka journey just as well as a longer stay.

Experiences
On "Negombo by Tuk Tuk", you explore the town by tuk-tuk, and in the cooking masterclass you prepare the house's crab curry. In the area are the Lellama fish market, where the night's catch is sold in the morning, the Dutch canals, St. Mary's church and the lagoon with its fishing villages.
Room categories
Uga Riva offers seven rooms and suites, furnished with restored furniture, contemporary Sri Lankan art and fine linens. All rooms have a king or queen bed, a bathroom with walk-in shower, air conditioning, ceiling fan, minibar, safe and an espresso machine with Sri Lankan tea and coffee. Bathrobes and slippers are provided, and a pillow menu is available on request.
The three Deluxe Rooms (approx. 39 sqm) show traditional Sri Lankan architecture: vaulted ceilings with white wooden beams, ornately carved windows looking onto the garden and terracotta floors. A king or queen bed and a seating area complete each room.
The three Superior Rooms (approx. 43 sqm) blend colonial heritage with modern comfort. A king-size four-poster bed with white netting anchors the room, while antique armoires and dark wood furniture recall the manor's 180-year history. Each room has an outdoor space for lounging and dining.
The Premier Suite (approx. 87 sqm) has soaring vaulted ceilings, a king-size four-poster bed and a separate living room. A private garden with sunbeds beneath palms and a terrace for dining make it a retreat of its own within the grounds.
We'll make your dream trip a reality.
