North-Malé-Atoll, Maldives Patina Maldives, Fari Islands
An island for art and sea
Patina Maldives sits on a 42-hectare island in the Fari Islands in North Malé Atoll. The five-star resort combines villas on the beach and above the lagoon with an art collection spread across the island, including James Turrell’s Skyspace Amarta, a light space that frames the sky. Ten restaurants and bars bring cuisines from the Maldives to the Mediterranean to the island, much of it from its own garden. A 1,500-sqm spa, a kids club, and diving and snorkelling in the house reef make the stay appealing to couples and families alike.

Brasa grills meat over open embers in the Patagonian style, Farine bakes bread and shapes pasta by hand, Helios brings Aegean cooking to the sunset, and Arabesque serves Lebanese cuisine.
Wok Society puts dumplings and wok-fired dishes on the table, at Fari Marina Village Dining Depot food trucks stand on the beach, and Tuk Tuk Gelato provides ice cream. Roots Garden is a purely vegetarian restaurant whose ingredients come from the island’s permaculture garden, and it opens on request. Veli Bar by the pool serves snacks and cocktails.
Wellness
The 1,500-sqm spa is open daily from 10 am to 8 pm, and treatments must be reserved. The offering includes spa treatments and watsu, in which you are carried and moved in warm water. A flotation tank, meditation spaces and personal coaches complete the programme, and the gym is open around the clock.
Experiences
Eight works form the island’s permanent art collection, including Skyspace Amarta by James Turrell, the photographs “Palms” by Cássio Vasconcellos and “Ocean Archaeology of Our Time” by Pamela Longobardi, made from marine plastic. In the Patina Art Residency, one artist works on the island for a month at a time.
In the water, you can snorkel in the lagoon, plant coral with the marine biologist and, with luck, see dolphins and turtles. A dive centre takes you to the reefs of the atoll. The Footprints Kids Club offers children aged 4 to 11 workshops, sports and marine learning from 10 am to 6 pm.
